Blog – Beaumont & Fletcher committed to craftsmanship in furniture and fabrics

By David Brough

November 30, 2017 – Beaumont & Fletcher is a rare source of beautifully designed and highly individual textiles, furniture and accessories.

It gained its reputation for fine furniture through meticulous attention to detail, and an insistence on traditional craftsmanship in every item of custom-made furniture it creates.

Every Beaumont & Fletcher sofa, chair and footstool is created by skilled craftsmen in its dedicated workshop in Kent, using only natural fibres.

“Each frame is upholstered on a bench by one craftsman,” said owner and Creative Director Jana Durisova.

“Craftsmanship is the most important aspect of making. We take pride in everything that we make.”

Using the finest materials and traditional methods, each piece epitomises the individualistic style and uncompromising quality for which the company is renowned.

Beaumont & Fletcher’s Couture Collection of hand embroidered fabrics is recognised as a collection of unique textiles of unequalled quality.

These extraordinary fabrics are embroidered by hand, using fine coloured silks, with gold and silver threads.  Some are embellished with pearls and crystals, others inlaid with semi-precious stones, but each is a work of art.

“Our beautiful designs are embroidered entirely by hand. Each stitch, each bead and pearl are individually applied by our master craftsmen and their skilled team,” Durisova said.

Beaumont & Fletcher’s mirrors and wall lights also do justice to these traditions of fine craftsmanship, and are made by small specialist workshops in northern Italy, where generations of carvers, gilders and metalworkers create stunning lights and hand-carved mirror frames, artfully giving them the patina of age.

“All our beautiful mirrors and wall lights are hand carved in wood and gilded using traditional methods and materials. We use antiqued mirror glass to give our mirrors that antique look. So they sit comfortably next to real antiques,” Durisova said.
