Everard Read London stages exhibition that shines spotlight on abstract work

January 2017 – Everard Read London begins the year with a group exhibition that shines a spotlight on abstract work.

Participating artists include Ricky Burnett, Galia Gluckman, Syndi Kahn, Vusi Khumalo, Liza Grobler, Bronwyn Lace, Louis Olivier, William Peers, Richard Penn, Lyndi Sales, Penelope Stutterheime, Andrzej Urbanski and Philippe Uzac.

Everard Read London is part of the Everard Read I CIRCA family of galleries established in South Africa in 1913.

The exhibition includes two works by Liberty Battson, 2014 winner of the Barclays L’atelier Award – South Africa’s most prestigious art competition for young artists.

Deploying statistics to govern her abstraction, Battson uses Google and its in-built feature -“search suggest” or “Google instant” which numerically ranks the most searched for results.

Battson’s work skilfully extracts, distils and translates information from the search engine and presents her findings in intriguing matrices that are also ravishingly beautiful.
